Pre-Postnatal Massage

The Massage Therapists Your Doctor Trusts

Addressing the needs of expecting women

Our massage therapist certified in pre/postnatal massage focus on addressing the special needs of expecting women. Pregnancy massage is safe from the day of conception to the day of delivery when given by and educated therapist. A sad truth is 85% of miscarriages occur during the 1st trimester. Many massage businesses will refuse to offer their services due to lack of education, fear of doing harm, or simply to avoid confrontation in the unfortunate event of a miscarriage. However, unless advised by a doctor, it is perfectly safe to receive a massage from a qualified therapist during the 1st trimester. While there are certain precautions regarding pressure points that are said to bring on contractions, we avoid working in a manner that would stimulate these points and utilize them when the due date has come.
Some of the precautionary pressure points are in the feet and ankles and have caused a fear of foot massages during pregnancy. Our pregnancy massages include foot massages in a safe manner that will not stimulate these pressure points. There are other areas of the foot that benefit from massage and reduce pain and inflammation in the feet and ankles. Our certified pregnancy massage therapist are trained to work safely on the feet.
Stress management is very important during pregnancy and especially during the 1st trimester. While expecting a new member of the family is very exciting, it can also be a very stressful time, as it is a life-changing event. Massage therapy is especially helpful in managing stress which is amplified with the hormonal changes during pregnancy. In addition to hormonal changes and increased stress the mother’s body is changing drastically from organs making way for a growing child and her center of gravity changing the way she walks to a waddle. Massage reduces body aches that come with all these changes.
During the massage we use a special bolstering system to support her body if she chooses to lie face down or if we determine a side lying position is better. A safe position will be discussed before each session. No matter how you lie on the massage table, you’ll be well supported and feel like you’re floating in the clouds.
